my build is
intel DP67DE motherboard
intel i5 2400
8 Gb DDR3 Ram
1 Tb internal HD
1 Tb external HD (wd my passport ultra)
256 Gb SSD Transcend (for windows)
250 Gb SSD Kingston(for Games)
AMD Radeon R9 380 2gb 256 bit oc edition sapphire
23" Samsung 1080p LCD.

i think all my specs are pretty good i just want to upgrade to a 3rd gen cpu, what would be a good choice for me?

i can exchange for a 3rd gen i5 cpu(used) by giving 20 bucks, or a i7 3rd gen cpu(used) by giving 150 bucks, dont want to change motherboard to get higher spec cpu bcz of low budget, plz guide me

If the purpose is to get better performance in games, then my advice is don't bother. The performance improvement from simply upgrading from a 2nd gen Intel Core i5 CPU to a 3rd gen Intel Core i5 CPU is marginal.

A 2nd gen Intel Core i5 CPU can still perform pretty well against a 6th gen Core i5 CPU, assuming the same clockspeed and using the same GPU. Look at the CPU performance chart below for Fallout 4 using a GTX 980 Ti. Generally speaking, if you look at the chart you will notice that the higher the clocks speed is the better the performance will be. Most a games are not as CPU dependent as Fallout 4. For most games, as long as the CPU does not hold back the GPU, it is the GPU that would be doing most of the work.

Let's compare...

Depends on the model of CPU there are multiple i5s and i7s.

However you won't gain much going to 3rd gen, better off waiting to get a whole new system (mobo, ram and cpu) than getting the i5. If you are in dire need of a system boost go for the i7, if your build is doing you well don't bother and save up.

Let's compare the Core i5-2500k @ 3.3GHz and the Core i7-6700k @ 4.0GHz. Clearly the Core i7 is a 6th generation Skylake CPU and it also has a higher clock speed; by around 21%. Looking at the FPS with the GTX 980Ti, the Core i5-2500k is getting 93 FPS while the Core i7-6700k is getting 113 FPS. Clearly the i7-6700k provides better performance; by about 21%. How higher is the Core i7-6700k's clock speed? About 21%... so if both CPU were clocked at the same speed whether its 3.3GHz or 4.0GHz, the general quick and dirty conclusion is that both the 2nd gen Core i5 and 6th gen Core i7 should provide similar results.
