How can I tell what PSU's will work in my PC?

Hey,

So I've been looking into getting a new PSU as mine is failing me, and the two problems I was having was price and knowledge. Now that I've got some money aside for it, I need to know what I need exactly.

My current PSU is an FSP-300-60THA, and I think over time and use (The PC was gifted to me) that it simply isn't putting enough juice out. It will not give enough power to my GPU (Radeon 5570) for it to send a signal, but the fan on both my Motherboard (H57H-AM2) and my GPU are spinning.

So basically what I want to do is get a PSU with a higher supply so I don't have to worry about it later if I want to upgrade my GPU (which I probably will).

So is there any way to know what exactly I'll need like limitations? Thanks in advance

Put all your PC parts here:
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/

It will tell you the total Wattage of your build,
That way, enter in the 'Choose a Power Suplier' section, and pick one of those listed, they'll be all compatible with your system.

There, you can find reviews too, so you can see for yourself which is the best.

I'd recommend these brands: SeaSonic and XFX. If going for a Corsair, stay away from the CX series.

The site seems to do quite well, but I think my inexperience only makes it harder to use. I think it would be better if I were building my PC but I just want to replace the PSU.

The wattage add-up identified that my previous PSU would have done the trick at 300W, but I'd rather get something with higher just in case.

I was looking at this one, purely based off of wattage/price, but I don't know much about the companies.

It's always best to have some headroom left. Having a PSU that just barely gives your system power will probably end badly

I'd recommend this PSU if you're looking for some budget one:

It's a great PSU for it's price, it's a little more expensive than the one you posted, but it's brand is well known and you won't have problems with it.
If you to search for more take these brands: XFX and SeaSonic, those are the best IMO.

I wasn't sure which brands I should be looking at but I was a little unsure about the prices, as I was seeing a lot of different budget ones as well. It is a bit more expensive but from what I understand you do want quality for something like this.

The raidmax is awful mate!
How much have you got to spend??

What cpu are you running??

- I'm starting to understand that there are a lot of bad brands. :( I don't really have that much, I'd prefer not to spend too much. I like the idea of spending 50, but I know I'll have to likely double that.

I'm running i5 650 @3.2 currently.

My biggest concern is the PSU not being compatible with my motherboard or case, as this is where I'm the most uncertain.

The board is a non issue , its a standard matx with 24 pin + 4 pin atx 12v

Does your PC look like this ??

You don't have to spend $100, there are great PSU with lower prices, you just have to check them out.

About being compatible, there are no issues with the mobo at all. About the case, just see if it fits, more than probably it will, as long as you don't have a mini ATX case or something like that.
If possible, get the specs of the case and compare with the PSU you want to buy

Check these PSUs:

Hey, I appreciate the options! I'm not entirely sure we're looking in the same space though, you might be quoting an American-based site so there's a bit of a price difference, ahaha. Canadian here, and the two options you sent were both 100+, granted I do have this up, and I'm pretty sure it's the same as the second link:

THANK YOU! These are some solid options in regards to price, so I appreciate it. I've had difficulties navigating through the prices and reliability. The two you've posted I've found at basically the same price, so I'd basically just have to make the decision on which one.

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'your fps does less than 200w on the 12v', but I think I'd prefer the Corsair. Would I hindered by the minor loss in Wattage in comparison? I know right now my max is 300W on my current PSU, so I'd think either would give me a better time.

Bro there are always ways to upgrade the pc and get good PSU but what I d recommend is building a new PC for all the modern games. If you dont have big budget you can take a summer job and get around 500 dollars, add some more and get a nice pc

cx450m - great fit for your system.
Its a dc-dc unit meaning it converts mains current to 12v only & the minor 3.3 & 5v rails are filtered off that as & when required.
Offers the most efficient way of doing things.
You could run a 250w gpu with that psu if you really wanted to.
Ignore the 300w badge on your fsp,the corsair is near twice as powerful & infinitely better quality.
Its the one Id go for in all honesty.
