I'm looking to buy a graphics card for my gaming rig, I don't currently have one. I want something that can run almost any game on ultra settings. I have an intel i5-4690 and I've been considering getting a GTX 1060 or 1070 but I've heard that some computers don't work well with certain graphics cards. Does it matter which brand makes the graphics card? (I.e. ASUS, MSI, Zotac, etc.) Thank you!

Solution
it would help if you share the rest of your system specs (CPU/Mobo/PSU).

Also, depends what resolution and framerate youre aiming for. if you have a 1080p monitor (60 or 144hz) youre going to need at least a 1070 to max everything. But the 1070 will take you through 1440p pretty far.
the 1060 will get you ultra with MOST games at 1080p 60hz but not all. some of the more demanding games will require you to turn off things like special effects for hair/water/particles/anti aliasing.

as for brand... asus/msi/evga seem to be very solid. what i understand is its pretty much all the same at a point. as long as you dont get a budget card, youre just paying for different cooling systems and factory overclocks

My recommendation would be a dual fan 1070 from any vendor. That card will beat anything short of a 1080 or a titan, and there isn't really a bad way to go in terms of what brand, with the possible exception of gigabyte, as I heard they were having memory issues on specific models at some point.

The 1070 will be able to take any game to 60 fps and beyond in 1080p without breaking a sweat, and will do very well in 2k additionally. The 1060 will max most, but not all in 1080p, and will struggle with 2k for newer titles.

If you can't afford, or don't want the 1070, then the 1060 would definitely be the runner up. And again, doesn't really matter what brand you choose, differences will be marginal.

In response to what hdmark said. When I check ms info the line for processor says:

"intel (R) core (TM) i5-4690 CPU @3.50GHz, 3501Mhz, 4 core(s), " etc.

I don't know if this helps clear anything up but I'm not exactly sure how to check anything else.

I went to a store and asked for help building my own rig. I was on a budget at the time though so I didn't get everything right away. How can I check the power supply?

I believe I still have the box so I will check tomorrow evening and get back to you

Okay so I've just found the box for my power supply. It is a Cooler Master V750 Semi-Modular
Model: RS-750-AMAA-G1
Type: Intel Form Factor ATX 12V V2.31

Would I be better of Getting the 1070? Or would the 1060/ Radeon RX480 be a better choice? How significant is the difference in performance for the difference in price?
