Computer is freezing at seemingly random times

My computer has been locking up for a while now at random times. I've been checking CPU and GPU temperatures and they all look within normal ranges. When it freezes, I've been forced to hard reset it. However, probably 20%-30% of the time when it boots back up it says "working on updates". I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I've updated windows recently so I don't think that's the problem. I looked on Device Manager and it seems all of my components are updated. I'm by no means an expert at this stuff so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there Navitus,

Do these freezes occur more frequently when the system is under load or they happen at completely random times? What are your system specs?

I believe you can do some basic troubleshooting:
- Go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers.
- Perform some stress testing. See if your system will freeze.
- Test your HDD: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
- Run some third party tool that can test your RAM.
- Go to Resource Monitor and see if there is unusually high usage of some of the components.
