GTX 1070? Best money to performance ratio?

Hi I've been researching products along GTX 1060-1080 and some AMD's. Seems to me like the gap between advance GPU's (1060-480) and semi-GG pro gaming (1070) is worth putting out the extra $180-250 for the performance upgrade. While the price for 1080 still is a bigger jump but with some diminishing return also same with Titan x but personally it's a hell no for me on that.

I'm keeping my eyes on the price and stock/boost clocks and ready to jump on a 1070.. unless I shouldn't....

The 1070 oc rog strix/EVGA founders edition caught my eye

Also curious what this out of box clock really is about... Do all 1070s have the same oc potential?

yes every card has the same top end. even out of the box clock speeds make little difference since boost 3.0 takes over and pushes it further anyway.

grab the one that looks good to you and is priced right and know it is right there with all the other models.

if you need some more info, here is a list of all the cards with specs, prices and reviews where available. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3047729/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1000-series-megathread-faq-resources.html#17902599

i've read all those reviews and mroe and not seen a single card that does better than the others. the FE cards are louder and hotter and worth avoiding but all the custom models are solid.

Where you comparing price to 3-4GB models? $180-$250 over the RX480 8GB/GTX1060 6GB is not really cost efficient, as GTX1070 is only ~50% faster. As for the clock- you should not believe any GPU clock numbers on the box. Pascal cards boost automatically to much higher clocks. The overclocking limit of the chip depends only on silicon- Pascal GPUs are 'born' with a hard limit of 2.0-2.1GHz (on air cooling); no matter what cooling solution is used- they can all reach these clocks. The difference is only temperature and noise- which is not really an advantage, just a nicer looking number in test charts.
Some models work at high boost clocks out of the box, and to reach 2.0-2.1GHz limit need only few percent overclock. For them, most overclocking performance can be gained from memory overclocking- which mostly depends on silicon lottery and I've seen memory overclocks vary from +2% to +17%.

gotta move the attention to the less frequent brands

Zotac jacks up the prices on their overclocked cards a bit
the 1070s by Palit (Gamerock or Jetstream series) or Gainward (Phoenix series) are great cards, that run cool and silent. got one in my case myself and they are usually among the cheapest cards (got mine 50€ cheaper than a founders edition)
furthermore, rarely seen but of good quality is the Inno3d iChill X2 & X4 (don't mind the X3) and usually come at a reasonable price

Hey thanks everyone for the lightsoeed replies.
In one if the reviews I heard the founders edition has some type of upgraded parts. Yea I figured they might lose heat dissipation cuz of the cover and only one fan. So Im Gonna take everyones opinion about the out of the box clock which is only beneficial if u decide to leave it as is (no oc).
Where i lie the average price for 1070 is about 550-600 with tax if there's a few but discounted. Honestly will prob buy one at 500 tops. So all in all I should just lean towards the one that looks best with the best price. I like the strix 3 fans and RGB.

the strix is nice and decent quality. in the US, the gigabyte G1 is usually pretty well priced and good quality as well.

but you really can't go wrong with any 3rd party card. all have tested well that i have seen. just the FE cards that are usually avoided, but you'd be good to go with a strix card. :)

Thanks bud.
Last night wasnt the best unboxing experience..
couldnt get the download for Gears of War.. then internet went offline for a few hours in my area.
and then i found out the price on the Strix went down.. But its ok..i got the difference back.

anyways. im just trying to pick up from last night.. hate to say it but i lost my mojo lol
THIS CARD IS INSANE!!
Putting the Asus features aside.. The benchmarks im getting are looking good. not even sure if i really need to overclock now.. ill try some runs on COD BO III and GoW 4
Anyone else have the ROG STRIX? The Strix software is decent. Not sure if Im better off sticking with this, ive only used AMD and a two weeks on MSI
