Whenever I unplug my PC after shutting down, I experience some problems on my next boot:
- LEDs and fans turn on for about 1 second, turn off for about 3 seconds, then turn on again
- Message displayed on screen: "Settings have been reset to default, press F1 for setup or F2 to continue"
- After pressing F2, LEDs and fans turn off for about 3 seconds, then turn on again
- MSI BIOS screen ("press DEL for setup or F11 for boot menu") is displayed, then Windows starts up normally
- The computer clock in Windows is behind by however many hours I've left the computer powered off
If I shut down the machine but leave it plugged in, the next boot is normal (machine turns on instantly, no 3-second pauses), and the computer clock shows the correct time.
Any ideas what could be causing this problem?
I've tried doing these things to solve it, but none of them worked:
- Removed and re-seated the RAM sticks
- Replaced the CR2032 battery with a new one
- Cleared the CMOS using the rear panel button
- Checked that there is nothing touching the CMOS jumper pins on the motherboard
- Checked the front panel connections (power/HDD LEDs, power/reset switches) - all OK
- Updated the BIOS (current version is E7972IMS.C60)
- Removed board from case and booted up twice (to rule out a case short) - BIOS reset still occurs
