gpu usage drops to 0%, games freeze for 5-10 seconds

I have freezing probs ingame.. I7-4790k, gtx 1080 asus strix O8G version and 16 gb ddr3 2400mhz RAM..
Freezes ingame only. Cpu never gets over 60-70% load and gpu hits 100% often ofc.. So i dont think its bottleneck.. Or it should'nt be.. Would be weird.. But my frames drops to 0 for 10 seconds or so and cpu goes up to 100% while gpu down to 0%.. What can cause this?

I can hear the games run in the background but the screen freezes for 5-10 seconds.

So far i have tried with new PSU, tested the RAM with windows' test thing and updated BIOS.
Ran a furmark 1080p for 1 hour and this did not trigger the freeze so i guess i can exclude the GPU.

i dont know what your are talking about? what games are you having this issue with ? what is the OS?

when did problems start ? how old is system ?
I had some thoughts trying running with hd graphics and see if it does the same thing. try some diferent ram ? or even try reinstalling os

Ye.. Im gonna try reinstalling the OS and if that does not fix it.. I will try and swap out the gpu to see if thats the prob.
The system is 2 years old but reinstalled OS 3 months ago before i got the 1080 evrything else is 2 years.. But the ssd is 6 months
