Hi, long time lurker here. I have recently had some issues with the thunderbolt port on my mid 09 macbook pro. Its attached right to the mainbord, i might have to replace it if its a hardware issue.

Here is my isssue.
1: a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter into my samsung monitor reveals the image it should (in umbuntu server currently) but the image every few seconds will go away and "redraw" really slowly from bottom to top. In standard osx i dont know but other gui based versions of linux resulted in similar results, but with really messed up color. I know this used to work in all the distro's i ran and in osx.

2: A mac thunderbolt display does not even reckognise that i plugged it in.

Why is is a problem?
I need the thunderbolt port for a second NIC as i am in the process of setting up this old computer as my router, and if the thunderbolt dosent work i dont know how to do this.

I was hoping to maybe open up the box and find a broken connection or fried resistor i could remove and reflow.

Any thoughts from some more knowledgable than me?

If this is in the wrong catagory ill remove it.

If you are having issues in Linux and not in MacOSX its probably a driver issue.

If you are having issues in both OS's then its probably hardware related, probably will have to do some microsoldering.
