Hi there everyone, I'm new to this forum and my 1st time to ask the community for advice..
Ok so I have a ASUS P7P55D-E Pro motherboard, well over warranty.. There's a small chip underneath the heatsink that's next to the cpu socket and the 8 pin cpu power plug that has burnt out.. The pc turns on for a split second then off again so I'm assuming that chip has to do with the cpu power 8pin.. Not sure
Now my question is whether it's possible to get this fixed by replacing this chip and soldering a new one on?
What is this chip called?
What is its function?
And if possible any other dodgy solutions?
Pls be kind as I'm above average when it comes to pcs but I'm no pro hehe..
Any info needed or pics pls ask
Thanks in advance

It could possibly be repaired, depending on the chip, though a good chance if it fried, it also took other bits and pices with it (i.e. damaged traces or other related chips, I'd look for a new mobo or better still upgrade the rig, mobo, CPU, etc

Hi thanks for the reply.. I'm in the process of doing some more research into what it is, and so I found out its a vrm chip or a mosfet chip regulating power to the cpu.. Replacing it could be a great task but it does seem possible.. My cpu is still fine and all other components are all good, just trying to repair this board as I'm quite broke to be able to buy a new board
