So I just installed a solid state drive for my operating system. I only want my operating system on the solid state and want to run everything else on my mechanical hard drive. I have no idea how to make everything do that.

Solution

Only some programs. Geforce experience is likely because you're installing drivers.

Theres two ways to do this. One is if you bought a Samsung drive you can use Magician to clone your OS over to the SSD.

The other is to uninstall everything off your hard drive to get the space down to what you want to put on the SSD and then use a cloning tool like EaseUS Partition Master to clone it to the SSD, then re-install your programs to the Hard disk.

Of course the third option is to back up, format everything and start over with a fresh windows install to your SSD.

So my SSD is a fresh install of Windows 10 professional, I haven't touched the HDD. So I need to wipe it and reinstall the stuff on it for it to work, and then just install stuff to it and it'll start normally?

Correct. You can't re-use old installs of programs (however if you use steam games you can save your steam directory and copy it into your new steam directory so you don't have to re-download your games) otherwise software needs to just be installed to the hard drive instead of the SSD for it to work.
