i post this question here because the headphone jack is a part of the mobo.

so i would like to know what is the future of the 3.5 mm headphone jack and other old standards audio connectors that continue to be present in many of our hardware devices.

apple has ditched it and i would like what is known or speculated about its future.

thanks

Solution
I speculate that Apple has made a big mistake. 3.5mm audio jacks likely aren't going anywhere, nor are quarter inch jacks. 3/5 pin XLR is still where it's at for true hifi enthusiasts. The market is just too proliferated to just ditch the world's most widely used digital audio interface.

I doubt it is going anywhere. Bluetooth has reduced audio quality and I can easily notice it but I am fussy about audio. I have not listened to a set of AirPods but from the reviews it seems the sound quality is nothing special. Until a wireless platform can be lossless in audio quality I cant see the 3.5mm socket going anywhere.

Airpods sound like ass. Pair the less-than-adequate audio quality of the earpods with some less-than-adequate batteries with that ghastly shape and ridiculous compression, and Apple totally has a winning formula here for $160 + tax. They also have a nasty habit of falling out of my ears the moment I tilt my head. Thank god they're not mine.

it's not really going anywhere right now. Apple is just levying a new Apple tax on its users. 3.5 will be in danger once you see a big push for USB-C type headphones. USB is the only port standard that is universal enough to actually wholeheartedly replace 3.5.

But even then, just like VGA, 3.5 is going to stick around for a long time after it's real replacement shows up.

3.5" will stay for years and years to come until USB type C makes it's debut in the headphone space.
Even then it'll still be extremely relevant.
For mobile users bluetooth will likely take over for the proprietary audio devices, but 3.5" will still be a thing.
