Hi, I have installed on my motherboard (ASUS P8H67-M PRO REV. 3.0 B3) my old graphic card ASUS Geforce GTX560 Ti. I want to upgrade my graphics card, and I would like to replace it with the ASUS R9 380 STRIX DC20C 2G DDR5. My motherboard has a PCI express 2.0 X16 socket, the new graphics card R9 380 is ready to connect a PCI express 3.0 x 16 motherboard socket.
The question is, the new graphics card is 100% compatible with my motherboard PCI express 2.0 X16 socket?, Can I have a heavy performance problem?. Reading in many websites and watching some performance benchmark from graphics cards connected to different PCI express sockets, more precisely 2.0 and 3.0, there seems no great difference in performance, the difference is between 1 and 2%. this is really the case?.

thank you very much!!

Richard.

Yes, that should handle the R9-380 nicely. Sorry to hear of the inflated prices. But the R9-380 is still a great card. Be sure to get the latest driver for it and keep it updated so it has the best teaks for newest games.

Yes, the card will work fine on your board. And the R9-380 will not saturate the bandwidth of even the 2.0 interface. So don't worry about it being held back.

Hi!, thank you very much for your reply. I am evaluating which GPU buy, With this explanation (the website link you passed me), I understand that any GPU PCIe 3.0 is compatible with my motherboard, although it has a PCIe 2.0, always Verifying that the power supply is adequate, according to energy consumption, I have a 500W power supply (real), I guess that is enough for a single GPU.
I am evaluating the Nvidia GPU also, which I like is the GTX 970 4G but is very expensive. In my country (Argentina), almost double the value of R9 380. Asus brand is a good choice or MSI is better?.

thank you, bye

Everyone has their favorite brands to hate and love. Personally, I have never had any brand that I didn't like. No problems with any of them, and I go thru a lot of cards. Asus, MSI, Evga, Gigabyte are probably the better brands... if there is such a thing.

What CPU will have the job of keeping up with your new card?
What are prices like for the GTX 1060 3GB? Here in the US, it is $200 or less. It is on a par (maybe a bit faster) with the GTX 970 4GB. Still good for 1080p gaming. I have both a stock 1060 3GB and a stock 970 4GB, and have benched them with my games and some benchmark apps. They are pretty close.

Hi, here in Argentina, all prices are distorted. Here, imported things are much more expensive than in other countries. In theory, apply taxes to encourage domestic industry but do not manufacture here in Argentina GPUs!!. That is all raising money for the state, then, it is stolen by politicians. The price of the Asus R9 380 is about 330 US dollars, on offer and lowered in price. The GTX 970 doubles this price. If I bought it on ebay or amazon, I paid many taxes, which comes out the same to buy it at a local sale. I also decided to buy the GPU ASUS R9 380 if it is still on offer.
Thank you very much for your answers.
