It came with an ssd buy no harddrive. The ssd was connected through the m2 socket. I want to add a harddrive but i can only see 2 unused satas 0 and 1. 2 beening used by the dvd. If the m2 knocks them both out, what can i do?

The ports should be active. Configuring the 5040 on dells site lets me add in a dvd drive with either m.2 drive option (sata or nvme) enabled.
If you have a dvd drive installed or laying around, connect it to the ports and see if it gets recognized.
