Hey Guys,
I've got a budget gaming rig that I put together about 4 years ago and it has worked flawlessly since that time. A few days ago, I was in the middle of playing Black Desert Online when out of nowhere my computer immediately powered off. Not a proper shutdown. Just complete power off identical to if you lose power in your house.
- I smelled a faint burning smell coming from the PC that I hadn't noticed before and upon trying to power it back on, now nothing happens whatsoever.
- I opened up my rig and disconnected everything to look for signs of anything being burned out, but everything looks fine.
- When the computer first powered off instantly, I noticed that a few of the USB's connected still had power to them because their lights were glowing.
- After turning off the power supply and turning it back on, it's blue LED-fan light would flash on and immediately off but the fan would never engage.
- As I kept testing the power supply by turning it on and off, it now powers literally nothing. No LED lights on any of the USB connected devices, no flicker of its own blue LED fan-light, nothing.
- I also tried unplugging everything to it and using the paperclip technique and nothing happens with the PSU either, although I didn't have a paperclip so I was using silver beading wire (from the jewelry-crafts area of Walmart)
Is this a classic PSU burn out?
