Hi,

well ..i am planning to build my first Gaming PC ..i wanted it as a red and black themed build ..so while i was searching for ram i found the AVEXIR Core 8GB Series DDR4 2400 MHz Memory Kit - red (1x8GB) the 1x8 gb version was the only one there ..so i was asking ..if i buy 4 of them will they work in quad channel with MSI tomahawk ac motherboard ?

and thanks

No guarantees when mixing sticks from different packages. It's a crapshoot if they will play, even if all are the same exact model. The Tomahawk is an 1151 so dual channel is tops - whether with 2 or 4 sticks. For 32GB best would be a 2x16GB set as two sticks is less stress on the MC (memory controller) than 4 sticks

The way quad and dual channel works, is that they come in one kit, and I believe they all have a chip installed on them to allow Quad Channel, I believe, that standalone memory (Unless stated otherwise in the description) does not allow Dual/Quad channel, even if it is the same RAM.

So that RAM would only allow single channel. But it can run XMP up to 2400MHz

There is no quad/dual channel chip on the memory modules (sticks). Rather, the chipset used by the motherboard is what enables a particular mode.

If the 4 modules match, and the chipset supports it, you can enable quad channel memory.

Oh, thanks for the extra knowledge ;)

But in the OPs case, his motherboard allows Dual channel only, so to answer his question now then, if he buys 4 it can only run in duel channel.

Correct, that motherboard only supports single/dual channel modes. You have to step up to Socket 2011 based systems for quad channel support (X99 chipset).
