I brought my pc for £70 from a local second hand store.

It is a Acer Aspire AX3812.

Current Specs are:

Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Pentium E5300 @ 2.60GHz 31 °C
Wolfdale 45nm Technology
RAM
3.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 398MHz (6-6-6-18)
Motherboard
Acer WG43M (CPU 1) 32 °C
Graphics
W2243 (1920x1080@59Hz)
Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset (Acer Incorporated [ALI])
Intel G45/G43 Express Chipset (Acer Incorporated [ALI])
Storage
931GB Seagate ST31000528AS (SATA) 37 °C
Optical Drives
No optical disk drives detected
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

I am just wondering if I should invest in upgrading this one or just buy a new one.
I am not sure how upgradeable this is. I would like to get a graphics card and improve ram.
Not sure what would be compatible though.

Any help is appreciated.

I just did a bit of research which finds him to be incorrect. Unfortunately that motherboard won't accept that processor as folks have tried to do the same thing in the past. Most likely the BIOS won't allow it, whcih happens often on pre-built computers. The GPU you could get but you would need a low profile one which both Gigabyte and MSI make, however your PSU is barely good enough and the CPU is still pretty slow.

Re-using that case and PSU is not...

Depends what you're doing. Word processing, basic web browsing, and OLD games (like more than 5 years old) then its fine. I wouldn't put much money in it, but its fine.

Anything newer than 5 years, or any sort of video editing, HD movie playing, multitasking, etc, theres nothing much you can do to prevent that computer form falling on its face. Time to upgrade.

Well I like to play games, but I am not really looking to play the most recent AAA games like fallout 4 etc. I would like to be able to run Skyrim, the long dark, stellaris and that sort of game smoothly.

My pc plays the long dark with all settings set to low.

I was looking at this http://www.ebuyer.com/735891-zoostorm-quest-desktop-pc-7260-5189

Your PC won't play skyrim very well. The one you want will play it.

That said what kind of budget are you really working with because the computer you want isn't too great either.

Try thinking more ahead, yes this may play skyrim now, but 2 years from now, you'll still be only able to play now 8 year old games.

Well I am not looking to spend much more than that. I would rather spend less to be honest haha. That's why I was hoping I could buy a new graphics card and some ram for my pc instead.

Seems silly to buy a whole new PC if I already have a TB hard drive and other parts. I even have a 4gb ram stick somewhere that isn't compatible with my PC. If I replaced my motherboard, would I be able to reuse my current case and power supply or would that be a tricky way of doing things?

Would they be compatible with my current pc? I do have some space in the case still.

Re-using that case and PSU is not possible, its small form and aftermarket boards won't fit.

To be honest with such a limited budget you may just want to look for something better used with a full size case. At least they will be somewhat upgradeable.

Ok thanks for your help. I will shop around, i'm not in any rush at the moment. Maybe I will save up and get something more expensive.
