Got any cheap upgrade suggestions that would deliver a good performance with the 1070? Intel that is, not AMD

maybe add an SSD?
Or see if you can find a faster i7 on ebay or something.

If you want to upgrade your current system you will need a new cpu, mbobo and ram. which is not a "cheap" upgrade.
Im in the same boat with a i7 980.

Yeah, one of the threads I made asking about 1060 vs 1070 for 1080p said the 1070 was probably overkill anyway. Still, would the newest i3 bottleneck it? Or should I just settle down with the 1060?

I have a prebuilt desktop from 2011. The only things I ever changed out of it was I got a EVGA 650w power supply and GTX 670. I have an i7 860 and 8 gigs of RAM. If the 1060 would just be the most logical pick for 1080p 60hz I could live with that.

Otherwise, I'd say my budget for parts (not including video card) would be about $300-500

I could get a cooler no problem, and thank you for taking the time to give me an idea. Honestly I'm not looking to OC my cpu, I've never done it before and am pretty nervous. If you get any spare time could you help me out a another possibility? Also, I suppose I could buy the 1070 now, plug it in and use it until next paycheck and pick all that stuff up? Also do you have any suggestions for a decent standard sized case that could fit all that and a 1070? I'm looking to use it in my dorm over a laptop, heh

Okay no worries, if not wanting to overclock you can save money by going a i5 6600 and basically any 1151 motherboard that you like (I always look for lots of USB ports, max memory frequency etc)
