Screen won't light up

Solution
Yes connect the laptop to an external screen such as your tv via an hdmi/vga and activate external dislay via the function FN keys onthe keyboard and see if output is working. if so it may be the backlight has failed or the actual led/lcd panel has failed like smorizio has stated before. But that would be your first troubleshooting step to confirm the screen is dead.
