Hi everyone,

Look, I bought a MSI 970 Gaming Mobo and I have a AMD FX-8320 processor. My question is, do I have to update the BIOS? And if so, is it safe if I do it my self considering I have no experience at all with computers?

Thanks in advance.

depends on how old the mb is. on the main cmos scree nwill be the bios rev that on the mb now. write it down and go to the mb vendor web page. if the mb is newish it may have the newest bios file on it. if not read what the newest bios file fixes. some updates are needed if it for new cpu or ram or gpu fixes. if the mb running fine then you dont have too. if you want to update to the newest bios file download it to your pc. unzip it and move it to a usb stick. with the usb stick plugged in reboot and go into the bios. under the utlity screen is the bios updater. run the updater and point it to the usb stick. it run and update the bios for you and reboot. on reboot you should have the newest file.

I undestood half of what you said, since I don't know too much about pc's. I bought this motherboard like 2 weeks ago, do you think it's got the latest version?

My pc is not built yet. I will build it tomorrow. So before checking the BIOS version, I have to build it (put MOBO, GPU, CPU, PSU, RAM, everything), then I have to install Windows, and when I have that all done, I check the BIOS? or how is it? Can't I check my BIOS version with Live Update 6?

I saw that, but i didn't understand it. So if it's on that list, it means that my mobo just needs the first version to suport that processor? That being the case, as it's the first version, my processor for sure has it. But it may come with a newer version and it would work too, right? Thanks for the help and pardon my ignorance in the matter (and my bad english too).
