Can my HDD affect my fps in gaming

Recently my HDD has been getting really noisy, I didn't even know that could happen. So could this be a reason why my frames are low

oh and btw the system i'm running is a very old amd build

Yes, a failing drive could affect the overall system performance. It could affect your PFS in open world games let's say, when loading textures, maps, etc.

My suggestion would be to back up the data stored on the drive. Then, you can just test it and see if there's something wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

See if there are some reallocated/pending/uncorrectable sectors in the SMART report.

Attaching the drive with different cables to another port would not hurt as well.
