What is the 2016 equivalent to AMD Radeon R9 390?

This summer AMD and Nvidia came out with new GPUs with smaller chips. What is the 2016 equivalent to the AMD Radeon R9 390?

I see that the RX 480 is cheaper than the R9 390. Is there any good reason why someone should buy the R9 390 as opposed to the RX 480? Is the RX 480 superior in every way?

The only 'good' reason I can see for choosing an older model videocard is if you could get a reduction in the price. If you could get a 390 for less than the cost of a 480, and I mean enough savings to be noticeable, AND you didn't mind losing out on any new tech or features, that's a 'good' reason.

thats one way of looking at it...
the other way wud be...say u save 50-80 bucks today...4yrs down the line, when the drivers for 390 will stop rolling out and there will be incompatibility issues or lags/stutters, u have to rush into the next card with that saved 50-80 bucks earlier than the rx480...
also, the rate at which gaming is becoming more high tech...the point of saturation for video cards wud get shorter and shorter...
