Issues installing AMD drivers

Hi all

I've been pulling my hair out trying to install updated drivers for my AMD 7970 HD. I noticed they weren't updating correctly so I reformatted and reinstalled windows 8, installed updates, upgraded to Windows 8.1, installed all updates, and then attempted to update my GPU drivers.

I've tried the above twice. I'm at my wits end.

All that happens is that it runs the install, but at the end says that the install was unsuccessful. Here's the install report (note there are no error messages. My dxdiag report is beneath that).

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

your card could be gone bad ? have you got another computer to try it in or maybe a buddys to see if it will do the same or if it will accept the drivers ?

I do know with my 7850 card I used 13.12 seemd any of the later drivers had some kind of issue that I never got with them like maybe periotic black screen or something minor so I just stuck with it ?? I find when the cards reject the maun driver you get for it from amd or NVidia it ends up the card or the psu may not be able to supply stable power to the card

when the card seems to work fine in default / safe mode just using the built in to windows standard vga driver - the cards don't run in a ''full power'' state ''safe mode'' and only uses the...
''I noticed they weren't updating correctly '' ??

like your using some kind of auto updater thing ??

why not do it correctly the manual way ? them auto updaters can cause more harm then good and screw thing up ?

[ I like how windows 7 and below is not covered anymore in this uninstall help ]

[install ]

''Manually Select Your Driver''
fill in drop boxes

then you download the requested driver and follow the install steps

I find for me to read the release notes for all drivers I use just in case something changed and need to know that may save me a headache ???

I cant say if win-8 got any settings to turn off Microsoft driver updating that may be overriding what you want to do and removing / overwriting your driver choices for theres .. I thought that was a win -10 thing ??

No I've tried manually selecting as well. Including manually selecting a driver around the 15 mark rather than the latest 16. The other thing that happens is it freezes during the installation after the screen blinks.

any way see if you can test the card in another computer or maybe a buddy has a spare like card to try in yours to see if it will work out ??

then maybe look over things as this to see is a little something may help ?? [I never used win 8 so.. ]

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1860839/windows-loading-radeon-7970.html

I never had to use this but a lot of folks recommend it or something like it ??? may clean up something that went wrong in some way ??

https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

but you said a fresh new clean OS install that should not be at issue then as far as a bad old driver uninstall fouling things up ...

also check for error codes like in device manager or in event viewer ?
