WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME :(((!!!!! My pc starts up, then shuts off almost instantly. Why?? This is the first time I've done PC modding and so far, it's not working at all for me. I'll attach a video so you know what I'm talking about. The first time I powered it on, smoke came out of the top left corner of the motherboard, and I instantly turned it off. It seemed like it came from the CPU power cable, but I have no idea what it actually was. The motherboard LEDs still work, everything powers on normally then shuts off instantly. The motherboard is an ASUS maximus vi formula, and my cpu is an i7 4770K. Please help, I'm totally lost.

I can salvage a speaker and see what happens. I'll respond with an update in a few minutes. Thanks

The speaker buzzed. I'll add another video so you can tell me what it means :)

According to this, your "motherboard is complaining" which sounds about right for your problem. Try each stick of RAM alone in the DIMM your manual says too.

I would put one ram in, no beeps, shuts off instantly. I take it out again, I get the same beeps as before. One boot was longer than the other, but it still ended up shutting off again. This is very strange :(

according to the manual it says to put the RAM stick in the second DIMM slot. It is also called A2.

the first video shows 4 sticks of RAM, you tried one and it shutdown, remove it and try the others one at a time. one or more may be the issue.

if all 4 tests end in reboot, try them in pairs.
Clearing the BIOS wouldn't be a bad idea at this point, the memory settings may be out of whack.

I'll take out the CMOS battery and see what happens.

Wait. There are flashing number in the top right of your board. Tell me what those are, they are called post codes and are used to troubleshoot.

SOOO turns out that my custom power switch is defective? I use that to turn on the computer and it doesn't stay on. I use the power button on my motherboard, and it stays on until I decide to turn it off. But the large problem still thrives: The pc doesn't boot. I got it to boot once, but I can't do it anymore. I used the power button on my motherboard and spammed the reset button and the computer decided to boot up. Now I know it's not my motherboards problem. I can't get lucky anymore and the computer is stuck after listing to the 4 beeps that the speaker makes. I know it's RAM problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I keep changing the sticks on the dimms but no progress. To reset cmos, I have to take off the whole heatsink that rests on my motherboard, and I don't know how to do that. Thanks :)

http://www.asusqcodes.com/index.php?inputCode=99

This says the IO is off for some reason. Try taking out the GPU and booting. If it still shows code 99, you may have to flash the BIOS.
