Gold vs Silver Thermal Paste

i am using gold paste on my latest builds no issue just pick good paste is the key i did a full barcode check for ratings & everything else. The trick is correct paste aplication is where there are so many ways but i use paste as how amd or intel would apply it. The paste i am using in a haswell i3 & temps sit nicely or withen cpu temps most the time below as intel will state end of the day paste is paste tho do ur research as i did it works if wana be a bit dirffrent the price is diffrence is not much in it

I wouldn't stress about it. Just get name brand non -conductive paste like MX-4 or use whatever came with your cooler. Be Quiet, Zalman, Noctua, Arctic, or whatever. You could rank them if you did enough research but they all will work fine. Most important is the application and a smooth install of the heatsink.
More to your question, I think it's probably marketing. Next we'll have someone marketing titanium once gold is old news.
