I have recently purchased the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 Rev (1.0) and it turns out, that just the other day Gigabyte released the Rev (1.1).

I don't understand if this is a new motherboard they released, or is it just another one with updated BIOS version?
Question 1: Is the board so bad as they say on the forums, since they had to make another one -> should I return my motherboard and get the new one ?

According to the website this is an entirely new motherboard - but why would they release two motherboards of the same kind ?
I still believe that the Rev 1.1 motherboard is just an updated BIOS model.

My motherboard Rev (1.0) came with BIOS F6 installed.

BIOS Update
Now regarding the BIOS Update. I have seen many people having many problems with various BIOS versions - even bricking the motherboard entirely.
I have not yet started Overclocking, in fact I haven't even enabled XMP for my Corsair Vengence 3000 Mhz - I am still running native 2133.
Also I still haven't tested the Thunderbolt 3 port (USB Type-C).
So my questions are:

Questions 2-7
2. Has anyone tested the Thunderbolt 3 port with the proper cable. Does it run to 40 Gb/s as advertised in perfect conditions ?
3. Which is the most stable BIOS version for GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 motherboard in your experience that I can use ?
4. Should I update my BIOS right now, or should I wait until they come out with a good stable version and then start overclocking and everything ?
5. Should I just return the motherboard and wait for the Rev 1.1 to hit the market and buy the new one ?
6. What was your experience with this motherboard ? I can't test it at the moment so I want to know what was the experience of those that tweaked with it - OC, XMP, Thunderbolt 3 tests etc.
7. Is there/which is the best BIOS Backup utility so I can recover if I mess anything up ?
P.S. I am new to overclocking - this is my first actual build

Highlights: I haven't had any problems with the BIOS or motherboard yet because I have not started tweaking.
Also I haven't installed any of the Gigabyte apps or utilities from the App center because the discussions on various problems seemed to revolve around the results of installing those apps.

Extra mentions: I've had small problems with no audio, but I just reinstalled windows and after installing the Drivers & Software - i just removed the Gigabyte software for Creative Sound Card and reinstalled it and it works great.

I have had this MB for about 8 months and it's been great. A few tweaks and no issues. I will tell you have had started with one samsung 950 M.2 and had to learn the correct settings for BIOS and have the IRST driverz ready for Windows to get the OS installed but besides that it works get. I recently got another 950 and raided them together in raid 0. I love it. I didn't have any issues the only thing is you do lose a lot of sata ports for the second m.2 bandwidth. But its worth the speeds. Windows boots under 5 seconds and installs are a flash. Highly recommend getting the new 960 m.2

the 1.1 will have the killer 2500nic SECOND LAN INSTEAD OF THE 2400 , don't use the rev 1.1 bios on a 1.0 board.

BIOS should be always PERFECTLY match with the motherboard or you will brick it. (but you have 2 different bios CHIP on that mobo, so no big deal if you do ONE mistake (but not 2) .

I know BIOS should always match the motherboard model. I wanted to know the differences between the two motherboards, as well as if one is truly better than the other, however it doesn't seem like it. Just a couple of added features of the Killer 2500 NIC doesn't seem like much.

Have you done any tweaking on the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 ? What was your experience with this board ?

I also want to know more about the rev 1.1 Even on the Gigabyte website they let you compare the 2 and I couldn't find any differences. I'm still holding on out purchasing this mobo because I want the rev 1.1 with hopes that it has updated compatibility for ram. I just want to know when I'll be able to start finding rev 1.1 in the markets for sale and what updates it contains. Please keep this thread going since it appears there is nothing online about this so far.

*UPDATE* Ok I was able to verify that rev 1.1 had the Killer 2500 as opposed to rev 1.0 which uses Killer 2400. Surely rev 1.1 also comes with updated BIOS compared to rev 1.0? (better (updated) ram compatibility?)

I hope it does.
However, to make a long story short, I have tweaked with the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 Rev (1.0).
I updated the BIOS to ver. 8, I activated XMP, I did OC to 4.4 Ghz and I have to say: everything looks great!
I only encountered a weird audio problem (you hear a lot of noise over what is playing) once after updating BIOS to ver. 8, but after a restart it went away, didn't have it since.
I have not installed an M.2 SSD yet, but that will happen soon - I heard that there might be some problems getting that to work.
