Hey there again, @Sahil!

I'm glad to hear that your WD My Passport external hdd is accessible again! I'd advise you backup all the data from it somewhere else immediately! You could also try connecting it through an externally-powered USB hub that could help you speed up the transfer of your files. It looks like the HDD could be on its way, so I'd advise you to do that ASAP. Otherwise, you might need the assistance of a professional data recovery company.

Once your files are secured and copied elsewhere, check your WD My Passport warranty status on our website. If it's still covered, you should be able to send an RMA request and get a replacement from our Customer Support.

Hey there, @Sahil_12!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD My Passport drive. :( I'd strongly recommend you try plugging the HDD using a different USB cable and to another USB port on your computer. Moreover, if you have access to another PC or laptop, try connecting the HDD there as well to see how it will get recognized. Make sure you backup all your data from the external as soon as you can access it.
Instead of running chkdsk, I'd advise you to run the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics for Windows. The utility will help us determine the health and SMART status of your WD My Passport. Posting some screenshots from Disk management would be really helpful, too.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting!

i tried the diagnostics tool and the drive was accessible
at first it showed the drive to be unhealthy
and then it vanished from the diagnostic tool window
and since then it has never shown up on it
but i can access it from my computer
but there are still issues with it
the windows explorer crashes in between
and i have been copying whatever i need from the drive but its running at extremely low speeds and its been like 3 days and i have only managed to copy around 7GB of photos
i have connected it to the USB 3.0 port and i am using Teracopy because i cant rely on windows explorer

In the future, make sure you always keep duplicates of your files in multiple locations. Moving data from your system drive to an external hard drive is not a backup, unless there is already a duplicate of the file on a different drive!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions!
