I have a gtx 1080 strix addition pared with a i5 four core cpu. I was told that getting a gtx 1080 is over kill for 1080p however from my experience so far I still have been getting titles such as gears of war 4, deux ex mankind divided, rise of the tombraider dipping to the 40 fps area and for gears of war sometimes in the 30fps area. I hear a lot of people claim that the gtx is overkill when it comes to 1080p gaming at ultra settings, but if a game at 1080p still pushes the gtx so hard that it dips to the low 40s then that means it is being pushed to hard. I dont see how people even play at 1440p seeing as it would even further limit fps let alone 4k. Is it perhaps that my gtx is faulty and I should return it, or would me getting an i7 make that much of a difference. I was told an i5 should be sufficient enough as the graphics card itself does most of the work. I am using a terabyte hardrive not ssd but I was told that just improves load times which I dont mind, doesn't necessarily improve fps when in game playing. I already updated all my drivers according to GeforceExperince Nividia. Is this Unusual or are other people experiencing the same thing. Valley engine benchmark says my gtx averages 102 at ultra settings. deus ex mankind divided at ultra settings no mssa says average 77.7fps. Gears of war 4 benchmark states i think it said 93.7 settings on ultra. Sure thats sounds ok but actually playing the games its a slightly different experience. What should I look into?

Solution
Hit control alt delete and check your process while running the games. You may have other software taking your cpu performance. You may need to uninstall what ever software is causing the issue. I suggest you also run advanced system care full scan to ensure everything is setup correctly. You can also us it to boost your game settings removing windows services you dont need.

Do you know which i5 this is? And how much RAM do you have (speed, type, etc). Have you opened Device Manager to see if all these components are detected? If you want, you could open Gefore Experience and take a look at the "My Rig" section to see what CPU you have, and also if it lists the GPU. Your GPU may not be getting enough power to use it at its full potential, in which case you should purchase a new Power Supply. Best of luck.

I have a hyper 212Evo .. but according to what gpu tweak strix additon my card never exceedes over 57 c. and I also have a cpuid hw monitor app that says all cores in cpu are pretty much never exceeding 40 c. Of course I can only view the cpu temps after playing a game dont know how to see temps or utilization of each core during gameplay. But as far as I can tell remains cool. Dont do a lot of multi tasking just got the rig for games so I try to make sure nothing is open in the backround while playing games. I do hear a coil noise somtimes coming form graphics card but thats usually when I have the setting on some games set to unlimited which the noise only comes in at very high frames.

As far as power settings I have it on High performance opposed to balanced. I forget if that was the default or not but I was told it should keep your graphics card optimal.

Also my power supply does 850 watts which according to microcenter is more than fine so they say.

my power supply does 850 watts which is more than enough according to microcenter when i was putting the pc together myself.

Its not about your PSU its about windows throttling your power. Sorry I didn't make that clear. In windows control panel check your hardware power options. After that you want to change power settings and then change advanced power settings. Another windows will open with the top drop down menu saying balanced, high performance, and power saving. Change it to high performance to see if it helps.

Thanks for that information I checked but it seems I already set it to high performance so that doesnt seem to be the issue. I guess setting it to balance wouldn't be a solution either. Maybe thats just how the graphics card reads I just thought It should be no problem to reach a consistent 60 frames and of course higher at 1080p seeing as people are playing at even higher resolutions. I think maybe I should start saving games on sandisk drives instead of the regular drives and I suppose a i7 would help as well. REALLY DIDNT WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY but ive gotten this far so.

Do you have a gtx 1080 and if so do you experience these low frames now and then at 40 somtimes 30fps with games like gears of war 4, deus ex mankind divided, and grand theft auto 5. I mean gears of war 4 is not an open world game yet dont get me wrong a majority of the time it does perform well I think but for it to have a varient from 144fps to as low as 30fps is a bit mind bottling. I have to lock it at 60fps so I wont see such variance but then I cant experience the awesome smoothness of 90fps and up. Thats why I bought the freaken strongest graphics card at the time, I am not a SLI boy its to much, at 1080p that shouldnt be asking for much.

Wow dude all I can say is thanks for taking the time to help me out. I went to the link downloaded advanced system care and driver booster 4 went threw some driver updates and put turbo boost on. Only tested gears of war 4 but it runs much better than before. Areas where I would experience dips in the low30s or 40s now improved, matter of fact lowest frame is saw was at 55 but you couldnt tell because it seems to pick it self up very quickly. Seems smooth cant wait to test out my other games now. Question once I set the settings do both advanced system care and driver booster need to be open for the settings to sustain or can I x out of them to perhaps get even more room on cpu and ramm that both programs might be projecting? again thanks a lot you know your stuff, and any other advice you want to share that would even further the gaming experience would be great.

It makes changes to your drivers, windows reg, plus other windows systems so they dont have to be up. Shutting it down when gaming is fine but maybe run it once ever month or so to keep everything clean.
