Using a 550w psu wastes energy than a 500w?

What happens when you have an 550w power supply but only uses 450-500? It doesn't waste more energy than a 500w psu, does it? It's a very simple question but I'm fairly around psu knowledge.

the PSU will draw as much power as your components require.
if your pc draws 150W, a 1000W PSU will only draw around 150W

the "waste" is determined by the 80+ efficiency rating. the more efficient the less power gets lost or converted into heat
