Hello,

I have the Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H Motherboard (with Phenom II x4 965). With all the different types of SSD's out there, it is not very clear to me which SSD type would be the fastest that does work.

I am aware that I will not be able to run NVMe. But there are also PCIe 2.0 AHCI cards, am I able to use these? Does my Motherboard support AHCI? It doesn't say it anywhere, or is a Sata SSD the fastest I can get?

Solution
with your MB the alternatives to 2.5 drives are:
1. PCIe drives - way too expensive
2. M.2 SATA (not NVMe) drive with:
2.1 PCIe adapter.
2.2 2.5" SATA drive adapter.

What is real life usage

What about boot times?

I see what you mean.

But I don't know which type is even an alternative. I'd like to know the price difference to be able to make a decision.

I mean an alternative TO the 2.5" SSDs. That's the whole point of the thread.
