what is the diference between a wifi extender and a powerline adapter?

A wifi extender usually receives the wireless signal, and then rebroadcasts it itself so that things you can have further range. They arent the fastest however. Powerline ethernet allows you to create a wired LAN infrastructure, through your pre existing power lines in your walls. THis works by one device that is hooked up to the internet through ethernet, and then you plug it into the wall. Then on the other and, another device will be plugged into the wall, and will have a ethernet port where you can attach a computer, or a wireless hotspot. SOme even have built in hotspots. Depending on the situation, powerline will generally be faster, but a range extender is usually easier and cheaper.
