Are these parts good enough for a gaming pc these days?

Hey guys, I'm building my first PC, and as parts just keep getting better and better, I want to know whether or not these will still be good enough for a pretty good machine. (I'm trying to keep my budget around $300)

Here are the parts I'm using.
-CPU:AMD Athlon 5350
-GPU:EVGA Geforce GT 610

and I have 8 GB of RAM

Solution

The cooler you put in there is absolute crap and worse than the one the CPU comes with, so skip it.
Keep the 2400Mhz RAM as that will considerably affect gaming performance.
I've found a cheaper and better motherboard(it was more expensive when i fisrt made the...

You cant really build a system for anything more than web browsing with $300USD. That being said those specs are probably the most you are going to get with 300, but if you are going to want to play, you are going to have to up your budget.

Not even close. For that kind of cash, you are much better off getting a console.
The bare minimum for a gaming build is 500, not including the Windows license.

EDIT: All teh above being said, this will game significantly better than what you had listed, as most modern integrated graphics solutions are faster than the GT 610. The CPu part is also significantly faster.

I was afraid of that. But I'm mostly planning on playing older RTSs like Age of Empires and stuff like The Sims or Roller Coaster Tycoon. I'd prefer to play FPSs on my Xbox anyway. EDIT: here's my full part list. (Ignore the keyboard and mouse etc.) http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YhjckT

See my updated post. You want 2x4 or 2x8gb RAM DIMMs as dual channel opperation helps significantly(~30%) when gaming on integrated.
You also get the added benefit of having a decent CPU to power an eventual GPU you may put in there at some point.

What if I use the same CPU but replace the graphics card with a Gigabyte GeForce GT 730 2GB?

The integrated graphics are even better than a 730. And the Athlon 5350 is an absolutely crap CPU for gaming, regardless of the GPU you use wiht it.

EDIT: But what's the problem wiht the build i listed?

Ok so I'm a complete noob at pc building, so let me get this straight. The CPU you put in the list pretty much has a graphics card built into it?

Yes, indeed. And a significantly better one than the 610 you were meaning to get.

Here's an updated build, in which I've put faster RAM that will impore gaming performance for a few extra bucks:

Would those parts work with this case? http://pcpartpicker.com/product/rzNypg/vivo-case-casev01 (or pretty much any other similar case, I like black and blue) EDIT: By the way, can I trust those sights like newegg and OutletPC? I'm trying to only use Amazon(especially cause I have prime and get free shipping), and but some of those parts are only sold by other sites. Have you ever bought from them?

Yes, no problem.

Add cases to the build in pcpartpicker. It'll tell you if there are any incompatibilities.

So I can add a separate graphics card later in addition to the CPU with integrated graphics? Would adding a gt 610 even do anything to improve performance?

Yea, you can. And no, adding a 610 and using it would decrease performance, as teh integrated is superiour. How many time do i neeed to say this?
You would need to add a 750ti at the minimum to get noticeably better performance over the integrated.

Ok so I changed a couple of parts to make it just a bit cheaper. I changed the power supply, the RAM, the optical drive, the CPU cooler, and I picked out a different case that I liked better than the other one I picked. I don't think it will affect the performance because I kept the same amount of RAM. Do you think I could change the motherboard, because there are cheaper ones, but if it decreases the performance, I'll keep it the same. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/kP69KZ

EDIT: Oh, and don't even think about going with such a crap cheap PSU. The problems with those range from not working to frying all the components in your system, to literally setting your house on fire!

Oh gosh, I though power supplies were just power supplies, so it didn't matter which one you got! Apparently not! Ok this build looks perfect I think I'll use it!

Enjoy your build and report back on how you're liking the performance if you have time and remember. Cheers!

I actually built and used for awhile the A10, and I tell you, that "cpu and gpu!" being touted as a solid build for RTS/CS:GO is very very very very very overblown.

OP: Do you think you can go fx-8350 with an rx-460 at the very least?

I doubt any of you guys will see this, but i came back to see this post, and man did i sound like an idiot. So, now that im a self proclaimed expert on this topic, I can't even believe that that was me. I guess i learned a lot. Anyway, my actual build is a whole lot better than the one i had above.

I have

i5 2400
8 GB RAM
and a GTX 1050 ti.

I spent $280 including peripherals because i bought an old crappy PC and gutted it. But from that i got a motherboard, psu, and windows license, for less than a windows license. Im gaming happily now and I can't believe i said i would prefer to play FPSs on my XBox which is now in a happier home.
