8GB or 10GB

Ok so I was upgrading my pc ram and I was just buying 1 stick of 8gb , however it was only £2 for another 2gb stick so I thought , why not ? Anyway since then I've seen post about 8 being better but I don't see how I assumed the more ram the better . And I was wondering if this is true and if so what is the logic behind t (Both are ddr3 @ 1600 and my mobo has 2 slots if that's any constellation)

Mixing RAM isn't recommended as 'best practice' here at Tom's. There is a chance your system either won't recognize both sticks or it might even have problems posting.

That said, many people like to mix and match RAM and never have a problem with it. 2GB of extra RAM really won't provide significant real-world performance improvement, but as long as you install it correctly there isn't much risk involved in trying.

Unless you are using your system for memory-intensive activities like graphic design or demanding gaming your 8GB or RAM should serve you just fine.

If it is only that little for another stick yes get it, having the extra 2gb may save you from bad studdering in Memory heavy games, with other programs like web browsers open. Then later in the future, you can get another 8gb stick and just get rid of that 2gb, unless you have empty DIMM slots.

Hello... Some MB's BIO's, memory modes and Memory controllers... Don't work well with a certain stick size combinations of Ram. Use and Performance may very from one MB to another. B /
