Internet dropping for unknown reason

I’ve recently been experiencing a network issue in which web pages suddenly will fail to load, despite the wifi connection remaining fine. It happens randomly but is guaranteed to happen within the first hour of browsing the web. It does not happen with other devices, and when it does happen, those other devices can browse the web just fine. Yes, I’ve reset my router and switched to different channels, and my signal is fine. Also tried both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, both have the problem. Also tried different drivers, happens with all drivers. Also messed with advanced settings in device manager, but I’d need guidance with what exactly I should do there. When the drop happens, running the windows troubleshooter immediately fixes the problem. Screen shots on the browser errors and troubleshooting report attached in this post.

I started experiencing this after I upgraded my CPU, from the i5-4690 to the i7-5775c. Network adapter is the Asus PCE-AC68 with latest 2114 driver. My motherboard is the MSI H97M G43, which is running the latest BIOS updated to support this processor. Video card is EVGA GTX 1070 SC. I may have updated my video card driver around the time I did my processor, so I’ll have to try out an earlier video card driver. I have the PCI-e card inserted in a full size slot, and even though it was already in that slot, maybe putting it in the x4 slot will do something.

What is strange is that if I’m watching a stream, on twitch for example, and the problem happens, new web pages will not load but the stream will continue to play and I can see the buffer health not losing seconds, confirming it’s still using the internet. Any help appreciated.

Try setting a static DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

I've toggled those on and off before, didn't help.

Have you seen a similar problem before that couldn't be solved?

Which browser do you use? Perhaps try using a different browser. This is a long shot, but try updating your internet time setting. Sometimes it can throw connections off.

No luck. It seems to happen most often when I have a twitch stream playing as I do other web browsing. I've always been able to do this without internet drop outs until now.

Make sure to run ipconfig/flushdns in command prompt. Try setting a static DNS again, and run ipconfig/flushdns after.

If you haven't already tried, and if it is possible, see if you can use an Ethernet cable to see if the problem still occurs. I'm just trying to get an idea of isolating the problem. Obviously, based on your pics, it is a DNS issue of sorts.

Sigh, still didn't work. And Microsoft Edge has the problem too, for which the prefetching feature is disabled by default.

You think my wireless adapter is over heating or something? Just seems like the weirdest coincidence it happened after upgrading the CPU. I might just have to swap CPUs back even though I'll need to go through cleaning and repasting. I want to try other troubleshooting first though, that's pretty much my last resort. If I still have the problem after going back to the 4690, maybe time for a new wifi adapter if other troubleshooting fails.

Just swapped CPUs. Problem is STILL happening with the i5-4690. The wifi card must have somehow gotten damaged when I did the upgrade, or just a really really unlikely coincidence that it happened to start malfunctioning recently.

But if you have anything else I can try, let me know. I'd rather not get rid of a wifi adapter I paid $100 for.

I'm pretty close to being able to confirm that the problem only happens when I have a twitch stream playing in the background as I browse the web. I'll try it out a bit longer and get back on this. Edit: Nope, it can happen even with no twitch stream.

Try temporarily disabling your anti-virus, make sure Windows Defender is completely turned off.

Ya just disable realtime protection. Windows defender can conflict with a third-party anti-virus. If you have a third party anti-virus on too, disable that temporarily.

At this point, it may very well be a windows 10 update gone awry. I suppose all you can do is wait for an update that fixes it. You could try tinkering with these settings, though take a screen cap of the default settings for your computer. http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-slow-internet-after-windows-10-anniversary-update-heres-how/

The most recent Windows 10 update released on the 11th, and I installed the 5775c on the 8th. I'll see if I can uninstall that update and test the internet.

Edit: The update was not the problem.

No luck.

I'm going to be ordering a couple different PCI-e wifi adapters. If those have the same problem, then I'll need to start further hardware troubleshooting. First removing the GPU, then PSU (still have my previous Corsair), then possibly even motherboard. Would give me an excuse to move up to Skylake hehe XD. That the problem is slightly more frequent, though maybe I'm just imagining this, when streaming twitch tells me the wifi adapter might have some over heating or other hardware issue, having trouble dealing with a lot of data.

Edit: It seems like it's happening more often now. I think the PCIe adapter is dying.

New wifi adapter is good. IPV6 works now too. Definitely was the PCE-AC68 that was malfunctioning hardware wise, and what a coincedence that it starts dying a month after the 1-year warranty expires. For this reason I'm avoiding cards with the same chipset, so I had to go with one of the slightly older TP-Link N900 adapters, works great.

The problem is flaring up again with the TP-Link adapter. Weird thing is that it wasn't happening for the first week but now happens rarely, again mostly when twitch is streaming in the background.

You think something is damaging any PCI-e wifi card I insert? Maybe the motherboard is bad, or the PSU is emitting something damaging the card?

Edit: It's been another week and no more occurrences. Must have been a fluke. So far everything seems fine, fast and stable.
