Hello there! This is my first post in the community, although I had read a lot here looking for some enlightenment.

As I didn't found it yet, I'm writing this.

My situation is as follows:

I had a Sapphie 7970 (not GHz Ed) running at 925Mhz at core and 5500Mhz at memory if I remember well.

The thing is that card died a week ago and I'm looking for a nice replacement which can last me for 2 years or so.

I wanna play on 1080p and as close to 60fps as possible. I'm the kind of guy who plays intensive graphic games like Mirrors Edge, Mafia 3, The Witcher 3...

I'm on a tight budget (250€ max). I've been doing some research about RX 480/470 performance, 1060 3&6 GB aswell, but I didn't found nothing that made me buy any of those cards.

I looked for 2nd hand GPUs at eBay, founding 780 for around 130€, 780 ti for 180-200€, 970 for ~200€. On AMD side there are some 7970 GHz listed around 110-130€ too, also some R9 280X.

I can't decide for one GPU because we are in the middle of a transition point to DX12 and/or Vulkan, and I feel like it's not a good time to buy one. That's why I've been looking for cheaper 2nd hand cards. But the lack of warranty doesn't cheers me up either.

So the question is, what will you do in my position?

My actual rig is:

CPU: i5-2500K
GPU: Radeon 4890 1GB
RAM: 8GB @ 1600Mhz
PSU: Gigabyte 600W

Thanks in advance!

Just one thing to be wary about, since Gigabytes warranty does not carry worldwide, only in the region where you brought it. Even then on warranty (if you even have to put it in for warranty) you'll have to pay for shipping to the re seller or Gigabyte for an RMA. Although I have no reason to think that the card would be bad at all if the seller is advertising warranty and it still works ;)
Looks good to me ;) You won't find very much 970's new either way.

Well I brought an r9 290 second hand off ebay, it's still running 2 years later in my system in crossfire. (note the r9 290x is similar performance to the RX 480). Im not sure on your currency but you can usually find r9 290's on ebay or sale groups for around 200 AUD, and it performs as well as a GTX 780. So I reckon second hand a r9 290 would be good ;)
edit: 200 AUD is ~ 120 pounds

If you're worried about getting a dead card, just look at reviews of the seller. Heck if they're close you could ask for a demo of it working.
Also make sure you use paypal so if the product doesnt work at all, you can complain to paypal and they may get your money back.

Other than that value for money goes to the GTX 1060 or RX 480 depending on price. (GTX 1060 performs better at times). NEW.

-good luck

The seller still has the receipt for the card? In aus I also see gtx 970's selling for about that price as well, the two year warranty if it's true is a good thing.

Although depending on your choice, the gtx 970 performs similar to r9 390's and 290x's. If the 970 is the best you can find then I would go with it ;) It's a quite capable card at 1080p and should max almost everything.

-good luck

Yeah i asked him for the receipt and he sent me a photo of it. It was purchased on August of 2015 in Spain (another thing to consider if i have to RMA later) so it has like 10 months of warranty on the reseller, and 22 months via Gigabyte. Also this is the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming.

Yeah i have no reason to think it will fail either hahahaha.

A few years ago i RMA'ed a Gigabyte HD 6870 without shipping cost at all (inside my country), and they finally replaced it for a 7850. So my thought here is, if the 970 fails next year or so, i could RMA it and get a 1060 in exchange, just guessing.

But the fact that it has warranty is a plus really.

I just looked for new 970 and they cost like 300€ brand new, pairing in price with the 1060 6GB, so not so much attractive.

Thanks for the answers man! I'll be buying this GPU tomorrow. :)
