Just like the title says, I understand the basics on how to build a computer but I have no idea on how to check the compatibility of the pieces I have chosen please could someone help me?

The parts I have chosen are -

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

ARCTIC Alpine 11 Plus Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler

Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card

NZXT H440 (Green/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case

Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Thanks in advance! :)

Big question here is if you want a PC where you can OC (overclock) CPU or not.
OC build does cost more than non-OC build though.

Here's an OC build.

Budget wise I wouldn't want to go over £1500, I would be using the pc for gaming and general use. About the RAM I would have no idea what to change it to any recommendations?

Few words.

Put in great CPU for OC. CPU cooler is the best AIO water cooler. Only the custom made water loop is better than the Kraken. Besides all the bells and whistles the MoBo has, it also has RGB LED for eyecandy. RAM comes with LED lights aswell. Put in ultra fasr M.2 NVMe SSD for OS and 1TB HDD for data storage. Went with the GTX 1080 (it's currently the 2nd best GPU in the world). Since case is personal choise, i didn't changed it. And lastly, a great PSU that comes directly from the best PSU OEM.

Here's also a non-OC build.

Also a few words.

Went with non-K CPU in this non-OC build. CPU cooler comes as push system but it can be easily upgraded to push-pull system with additional 120mm case fan i added into this build. For this build, put in B-series MoBo and 2133 Mhz RAM (16GB). The rest is same as in OC build.

And now a bench between the OC build (base) and non-OC build (alternative).

Userbenchmark PC Build Comparison

Baseline Bench: Game 134%, Desk 116%, Work 74%
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
SSD: Samsung SM951 NVMe PCIe M.2 256GB
HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB

Alternative Bench: Game 132%, Desk 106%, Work 68%
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
SSD: Samsung SM951 NVMe PCIe M.2 256GB
HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012)
RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2133 C14 2x8GB

Thanks for your help, I think i'm going to go with the non OC build as i'm clumsy as hell and don't wont to risk water cooling
