Alienware 15r2 used as desktop?

So I have an alienware 15r2. 16gb ram and a gtx 980m. And I wasnt to start using it as a desktop. so I hook it up to the alienware graphics amplifier and add a gtx 1060. It has the core i7-6700hq. would me using the i7-6700hq with a 1060 be similar to using a core i5-6500 with a 1060. What cpu is the 6700hq closest to in performance? thanks in advance
