Hello! I'm looking to upgrade my PC from when I first built it in 2010. I've upgraded some parts since then, mainly hard drives, but I'm looking to give it a nice tune up and was wondering if I could get some advice, Which would be most appreciated!

Approximate Purchase Date: Between October 2016 and Feb 2017

Budget Range: Ideally $500/maximum up front, but up to $1200 if spreading out purchases

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Photo Editing, Video Editing (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects), Gaming. In that order.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: Primarily Motherboard and CPU. Then other components.

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon, Newegg

Location: City, State/Region, Country - WI, USA

Parts Preferences: Intel

Overclocking: Don't know anything about overclocking so I will say no

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: ...

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I first built my PC in 2010 mainly for gaming but since then I don't game nearly as much and most of my computer time is spent doing photo and video editing. I still game and it would be nice to play them at higher settings and smooth frames, but not life changing.

You say you have upgraded hard drives. What does that mean? For editing a SSD drive is a key component. Is Windows on an SSD like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147373&cm_re=850_Evo-_-20-147-373-_-Product . That makes editing jobs so much quicker.

Yours https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5+750+%40+2.67GHz&id=772

Suggested https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-870+%40+2.93GHz&id=832

It is compatible http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3439#

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126135&cm_re=AMD_480-_-14-126-135-_-Product for a GFX boost.

OVERKILL https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-06G-P4-6163-KR/dp/B01IPVSLTC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1475942754&sr=8-5&keywords=1060+6GB . This GFX card will far outlive the usefulness of the current CPU and motherboard.

Your PSU supports those upgrades.

Well my computer seems to have up and broken ( I bumped into it last night and now it won't boot up. Checked to see if anything was loose but everything seemed firmly in place).

I figure as such now is as good a time as any to go ahead and upgrade. These are the parts I'm currently thinking of:
CPU: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/tdmxFT/intel-cpu-bx80662i76700k
Motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/Q9Gj4D/asus-motherboard-z170a
Memory: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/6xs8TW/gskill-memory-f42400c15q32gis
Storage (Boot Drive): http://pcpartpicker.com/product/8WZ2FT/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mzn5e250bw

Price: $599.67 on Amazon

Other parts I currently have and won't be upgrading at this time. Just trying to get the things I think I really need right now. Just want some input on this selection. I'll be using Win 10 as the OS.

With XPS and other auto. features this is not an issue but instead just my opinion. I'd opt for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232245&cm_re=G.Skill_Aegis_32GB_%284_x_8GB%29_DDR4-2133-_-20-232-245-_-Product . At 2133MHz the speed difference won't be noticed. It's also the RAM speed this board "likes". The native speed? Have I not had enough coffee? While your choice is supported it is only when the RAM is overclocked that the RAM modules will run at that speed. Like I said, that's just what I would do. Not a thing wrong with your choice. Other than that opinion it looks beautiful for what you want to use it for.

I'm updating mine too and after a lot of research the 6700K looks like the best CPU for photo editing right now. I'm assuming you are using mostly Adobe products (PS/LR)? If not, it's possible a higher core CPU might be better. Regardless, can't go wrong with a Skylake and plenty of RAM.

Your assumption is correct. I do my work in PS, LR, PP, AE and InDesign.
