Can I use this server as a gaming PC?

Solution
Sure, but it will be leagues more expensive than what you're looking at. Take a look at these Dell tower servers, you could probably rig up one of those for gaming as well if you really wanted, but in general it is a terrible, terrible waste of resources: PowerEdge T630 Tower Server

1. And your R7 will fit in there how, exactly?

2. I hope you are going to have this running in another room. 1U servers are LOUD.

Well there is 1 X PCI-E 2.0 X16 slot that a graphics card could theoretically fit into, but then you would have to worry about power and form-factor...like the server case not closing, and the power supply not being sufficient.

On top of that that processor has quite weak individual cores and isn't designed for demanding single-threaded tasks like gaming, so even if you COULD get the GPU in and working things would be slower than a snail through peanutbutter.

In short...I wouldn't recommend it.

Edit: Also +1 for USAFRet's comment on sound. It would sound like one of the jet engines in his signature. That said I've read the newer PowerEdge R230's aren't as bad, but haven't gotten around to seeing one in action yet.

Well, thanks for the replies guys, I just got the idea from watching a video of someone building a gaming PC using server parts, is it possible to use a different server?

Well, I was looking for something between 200 and 300 dollars, so I guess ill just buy a normal motherboard and CPU.

Servers/server hardware is usually a bad choice for any type of gaming PC.

They're also just bad to try and repurpose as a desktop of any type simply because they're practically designed to be LOUD AS $%&*.

It's quite literally as loud as a hairdryer, all day every day.

Yeah because for one you need a video card which will run you $200-300 lol

There was absolutely no harm in asking, and I think the point is more than driven home.

If you hadn't seen much server hardware before you wouldn't know, and it sure as heck is better to ask then go ahead and buy something only to be disappointed later.

That would definitely be best. If you would like please feel free to post the full hardware specs you already have and I'm sure folks would be happy to suggest some great options to round out your system. At this point I'd recommend starting a new thread.

I recommend you go with this OP, should be all you need. for a basic gaming system.
If you have DDR3 RAM leftover let me know and I can make a new list for you which will save around $20, but will come with roughly 10% less performance due to the node leap from Haswell to Skylake.
If you can, with this rig save up for a $340 budget to get the Gigabyte B150 DS3H for $63, it is a much better board.
