new GPU messed up speakers

I installed an evga 2gb gddr5 GeForce gt 730 video card and now my speakers aren't working I've tried to search the internet for a fix but cant find anything, can someone please help?

Is the cable plugged into the right audio jack? Where are the speakers? In your monitor?

the cable is plugged in to the audio jack with a green ring around it if that's what you mean. and no they are separate from the monitor.

Right click the speaker in the taskbar --> choose playback devices.

Make sure the speakers is set as the default output device.

Then this is how you solve it ^

Go to the control panel > hardware and sound > sound > playback tab > set speakers to the default audio

there is no speakers option anymore just "NVIDIA HDMI output (port 0)" and "NVIDIA HDMI output (port 1)".

Unplug them and plug them back in? If you do that it should prompt you to tell windows what the device you plugged in is

Did you install the drivers from Nvidia when you installed the new GPU? Also, you can try to download and re-install your audio drivers from your MB manufacturer.

Then I'm not sure what could be wrong other than it being the wrong port, the port being broken, or the driver being corrupted. If you plug in a pair of headphones does it bring up a prompt?

yes, I installed the drivers from the disc that came with GPU. and I have no idea where to get audio drivers for my speakers from.

ok so I went to the manufacturer website(hp) and tried to download an audio driver but it said it wasn't supported by my computers hardwear(I'm guessing something to do with the new GPU?)

Then contact HP, that's the driver for the model you gave me unless they messed it up on their site somehow.

ok thanks for the help. one last question, if I were to get a monitor with the speakers built in to it and connect that to my new GPU would that fix the problem? just want to know what options I have

It should, but your drivers should also work. You can try to force Windows to use the audio driver:

1) Extract the audio driver to your desktop.
2) Right click audio device in device manager and select "Update Driver Software"
3) Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" then click "Have Disk..."
4) Browse to the audio driver extracted to the desktop and click "Next", install the driver

Lastly, have you tried disabling audio via HDMI?
