help? old hdd & reboot..

My old hdd which has win7 installed is not detecting on new mobo&processor...so can i be able to put bootable win7 installation dvd in dvd writer & reboot with this old hdd & format only c:drive where old 7 is installed..but i dont want to format other d,e,f,h drives where my impn data is stored..is this possible??? ( all above am asking bcos i dont have portable external hdd & usb cable to backup my data on different computer..) is old hdd need to format fully to detect even when win7 bootable dvd is on de writer ??

Hey again, mate. :)

You don't need to format all the partitions. You could use only your C: drive for the Windows installation and everything else should be intact. However, please make sure that you select the correct partition. When installing Windows, you should select drive options so that you can manage the partitions.
Either way, it's still strongly recommended that you find a way to backup important data, even cloud service might be of help at this point, if you don't have an available storage device.
Another option would be to free up enough space on your HDD in order for you to make a new Windows installation without formatting anything. Check out this tutorial...

I have had success just running the startup repair after doing a mobo transplant. It can load the drivers necessary for booting the new config. It is a sloppy but fast way to get it booting, where you can then manually install the rest of the drivers needed.

Might be worth a shot
