Hi guys, I have a Dell OptiPlex 620 I bought from a technician.
Specs:

Intel i5 processor: 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Win 7 (can upgrade to win 10 since I have the OS usb)
Graphic card: none
Storage: 250GB SSD

What I want to know is what is the best Graphic card possible that I can buy for my machine. I want to run EVE online smoothly.

Solution
the dell optiplex 620 sff only accept pentium D cpus. What you have is not an stock computer, most likely it is just the case that is from the dell 620.

Any card you put in there will have to be single slot width otherwise you will have to take out the Drive plastic cady and mode it. Also it cannot be too long since it would hit the CPU heatsink.

If you are lucky you can look for a low profile GTX 750 ti like this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125680

Change your 3.5 inch drive for a 2.5 inch one (and SSD or a laptop drive) and Cut up your case and HDD plastic caddy to acommodate the Video card and close the case properly.

I had an optiplex gx620 and a gx755. and did do some of those mods on it but...

Which form factor is it? With the optiplex's I believe there is standard, sff (small), and usff (ultra small). If it's a small form factor one, then you will need a low profile video card. Fortunately many low profile cards will play EVE easily. The other thing I'd need to know is what size PSU do you have? We need to know the wattage output to see how thirsty of a card it can supply.

Ok so I needed to update the info. The processor is actually Intel i5(TM) 3.1 Ghz. Now regarding the PSU spec, I am currently not sure since I have had time to prop open the Tower to check inside what the PSU spec is. But based on what I have provided so far, can you recommend me couple of graphic cards and which one you believe is best.

Well according to Dells website, an Optiplex GX620 SFF has a 275W PSU which is actually pretty decent. You can run a lot of cards with that.
The fastest low profile card you can get currently is a GTX 750 Ti. Below that is the GT 740, GT 730, R7 240.

Don't bother with anything lower than a 750 ti.
If you have a Dremmel tool and have the guts, try something like this:
maxresdefault.jpg

You can probably squeeze in a short 1060.

2 things first is like here

from

all the psu watts don't overcome that you got to remember you have a ''proprietary'' motherboard and bios

then is the bios going to support todays cards ?? you may find even the 750ti may not work as they once did cause the removed the legacy/ uefi switch from them ?

my disclaimer

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..

you got to know the the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..

also these boards do not have to meet atx standards and there pci-e slot power may not do the required 75w needed for most higher end cards and can be limited to say 45 or 60w that is all thats needed with the low end factory oem cards that it may of shipped with

only thing dell gurentees is it works as is as you bought it out of its box not a drop more the rest is all your own risk

may look over dell forums on your model and see whats all said

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/p/19593892/20663545#20663545

in the end you buy, you try, and hope it don't make you cry

good luck

I have kids so probably don't want to try something that would need me to keep the tower open or bulging out. I think I will go with a 750 then. Thx everyone for your help ^^

My last question, is it possible for me to use a 2GB graphic card with SFF.

this maybe worth a look

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127836

lot of Dell Optiplex users in the reviews ? still no guarantees on your model but ?? '' System Requirements Power consumption: 60W'' and if your motherboard is like I showed above and good form 25w ??

those dell models they got may not have a low power limit on there slot as yours seems to do ??

now like here this card

System Requirements Power Consumption: 19W

I already know about quality gaming machines at a low price like the cyberpower pc for $400. I am not planning on getting another pc just yet. I not long ago replaced my previous computer that had Gefore graphic card with this pc because that pc started to have motherboard problems. So am not ready to buy another pc just yet. Also the spec of this pc is pretty nice so no point in wasting it just yet.

XD.....The MSI GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB was the same one I was looking at on ebay. Thanks for confirming what I was convinced to get. I know Msi graphic cards are highly satisfactory and are preferred by most professionals. I was wondering if 2GB be fine on my machine. Your respond helped confirm I can use 2GB on my machine. Thanks ^^

I wish I could, I live in a apartment and no more space left for me to do something like that. Since I already have a large 55" tv mounted on the wall and other area is for furniture. XD

Thanks for your message. Do you mind elaborating why you believe that Gigabyte Gefore GTX 750 ti is better than the Msi Gefore 750 ti I posted. Thanks.

dude don't you get your board show to have a 25 w pci-e slot ??? ATX standard spec is 75w so your going to stick a card in that requires more then that ??? like them 750ti's are 65w ? you need a low powered low profile card as the ones I showed you at say 19w

then you got to realize that the cards you buy today may not be supported under your "" PROPRITORY '' dell motherboard and its '''PROPRITORY'' bios's

I don't get your best answer like I said you DONT want a answer that DONT fit your need ..

I not pointing this all out just for the fun of it and no way can anybody safely recommend any upgrade for you

anyway I hope it all works out and not holding the bag looking at a black screen and error beeps

good luck

PS nice job Jay Santos . but you could do all that with 1/4 of the space not all over the place as you did ? like why not just put the vid card in the boards slot at less space no extra parts and added cost for one example ???

His computer is not a Dell optiplex 620 otherwise it wouldnt have an i5 in it. The PCI express slot should have the 75w on the newer dell Sff motherboards.

He said he got it from a technician so I bet that pc is made out of multiple ones and only the case is from a 620 (those use pentium D cpus really old)

the difference is the height of the video card. The gigabyte one is a Low profile card

srry, I just realized I got it mixed up with a previous computer. It's actually HP Compaq Elite 8200 SFF. I got it mixed up because they look the same. But the specs above are correct. I also looked on HP site and they answered someone previous that radeon card works with this pc. So do I have to get a radeon or does msi GeForce can work to? Also sorry for the previous confusion.
