Hi!

Today I installed ZOTAC GTX 970 amp extreme core edition into my PC with the latest GeForce Experience and driver. The problem appeared when I was in the middle of a game (WARFACE). My PC restarted itself. It happened two times after a certain amount of time. I was wondering if this is a GPU and PSU issue. Need help!

PC spec:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 @ 3.20 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 amp! extreme core edition
PSU: KOLINK KL-600 600 Watts
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S2H
socket 1150
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Thank you!

Even if the problem isn't the PSU, a low quality unit is likely to cause problems in the future. Therefore I'd still recommend changing it.

I agree with @weberdarren97. 99% it's your psu. But there might be another problem. So just to be sure Try using your friend's or any other relative's psu and check if the problem still persists.

That power supply will serve you well, although it's a bit overkill for your machine. You're not going to use more than about 350 watts, so I don't really think you needed more than 500W.

Although the Corsair RM650i is of exceptional quality. Do you have an extra USB header on your motherboard for the monitoring cable or are you not planning on using that feature?

I see your point. I can get the PSU you are suggesting for about £97 with additional next day delivery of £10 on ebuyer website. On amazon I can get it for £87 but will not be delivered tomorrow. However, I found the RM650i on amazon prime for £100 and since I am a prime member I can get it by tomorrow with no additional cost. Plus the GPU requires minimum 500W system power supply so I wanted to give it a good headroom. These are the reasons.

I would love it if you can explain me what the monitoring is all about. What do I monitor with the USB header. The whole PC was bought from amazon so I couldn't do a proper research on each component.

The i at the end of RM650i is for Corsair Link. It's a technology that (coupled with software) is able to monitor the internal functions of the power supply at a hardware level. This is much more accurate than trying to sense voltages across boards and trying to calculate amperage via VRM load.

It's useful when trying to find the limits of the power supply.

Also, the card wanting 500W is really just a recommendation. I usually ignore it. They put that there because not all companies make power supplies that can deliver sufficient PCIe power even though they have a high advertised wattage. If you get a good quality unit that has no problems delivering sufficient power to the PCIe connectors, then you'll be fine with a good quality unit even if it's only 400W. Also, the GPU asking for 500W doesn't mean that the graphics card will consume 500W. Not even close. That's a suggestion for total PSU power in case you don't know what you're looking for in the PSU market.

EDIT: I'm glad you're asking these questions. Someone who's willing to learn and explore the computer world will find themselves in a good position when their machines have problems. Continue exploring and maybe you'll end up owning your own business like I do. But I'm not an average example, I'm 19, learned at a private institution and started my business with a large inheritance from my father.

Oh! I understand now. I would have bought the RM550x and saved £13 if it could be delivered tomorrow. However, I need the PSU tomorrow. Plus having that "i" feature and also having more power just in case I add more power hungry components in the future, is I think not a bad idea. I'm trying to see things with respect to money.

I'm very happy for you!! Keep up the good work! and wish you good luck with your business :)
