I've been trying to get my dads computer working for almost 2 months now. The only reason that it isn't working is because the hard drives aren't detected I have bought like 5 hard drives and none of them are being detected I have also tried to plug the power cable into a different port on the PSU and also I have tried different SATA ports and I have also changed the data cable multiple different times. also to make sure that it wasn't the motherboard on the most recent hard drive I put it into my computer as a secondary and a primary and it still wasn't detected.

specs:
Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate
CPU: i7- 4790k
GPU: 7770
Case: Corsair SPEC-01
PSU: CORSAIR RM750X
HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM
OS: Windows 10 home

Solution
I completely forgot about this thread but I brought this computer to a shop and he took like 6 months to figure out that this issue was due to a faulty PSU. thanks for all of the help.

On the next harddrive, try it in yours first since we know your pc works. Then if his doesnt detect it, put it back in yours and see if its not detected now.
I have a feeling something in his is killing drives otherwise I would just have you try your good drive in his pc.

Hey there, @Obama the llama!

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's PC detection issues with the WD Blue HDD. :( I'd advise you to check how the HDD is recognized, if connected externally via a Docking station/enclosure with an AC adapter (since a 3.5" drive needs the power supply). You mentioned that the drive fails to connect, but have you determined that it's not spinning up at all through the various connections? When you put it as a secondary HDD in your PC, can you see the drive listed in the BIOS? If it's there, I'd also recommend checking Disk management in Windows to see if the drive is there at least.
Since you have been trying to get 5 different HDDs recognized, I'd also recommend checking your dad's motherboard manufacturer official website to make sure you got the latest SATA controller & Chipset driver updates. While on it, make sure you have the latest BIOS version installed as well.

Keep us posted.

I have updated the BIOS and it still isn't recognized, to answer your question about if the drive was recognized on the bios of my computer no it wasn't and I also went into disk management and it wasn't there either

I'm sorry to hear about that, @Obama the llama! If the WD Blue is not showing up or working properly in multiple computer systems, then it has most probably failed. :( I'd strongly recommend you consider a professional data recovery assistance, in case there are any important files on it.
If there's nothing that you or your father wish to retrieve, then you should probably check the warranty of the WD Blue. If it's still covered, you should be able to send an RMA request to our Customer Support and get a replacement.

What happened to all the other HDDs you attempted to get recognized in your dad's system? I'd also advise you to consider testing the PSU and make sure that the whole system is in check. A failed PSU could possibly cause other hardware components to fail as well.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

To answer your question about where the other hard drives when I returned them and they accepted it like 3 times, also I have gotten a new hard drive now this time I got a 1tb drive with sea gate instead of WD what should my next coarse of action be?

You should get in touch with the HDD manufacturer's customer support and use their website to check the warranty status of your HDD there. :)
It is the same course of action, really. If you have recently acquired the hard drive from a third-party reseller, then contact them for further assistance with the RMA procedure.

Best of luck!
