Hi I have an 990FX Extreme9
with a AMD FX 9590 processor. I absolutely need 64 gb ram (for statistical computations on big data sets) that seems to be supported by such motherboard (16x4). I do not want to overclock. What is the best configuration for this PC in terms of 16 x 4 GB slots? Thanks in advance

And the "absolute need" is....why, exactly?

I know your not looking for a non-answer, but I have to tell you that even 32 Gb (which I have) is overkill.. for anything. I edit large video clips, watch movies in VLC on one monitor and modded games on the other... all at the same time, and I've never used more than 9 Gb at one time. I have Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, and if this OS won't make use of it.. then outside of RAMdrive I can't see the sense of buying it. I have the same board and I really think 32 is the most DDR3 memory anyone should buy. Waste of money to buy more. Put 32 in it and watch how under-utilized it is, then you will understand. Just because you put it in doesn't mean it will be utilized.

I hope I save you some money because 16 Gb sticks of DDR3 are not cheap, and VERY rare. And I'll bet the latency and timings aren't the best either. Go light and fast with memory.. especially with a fast northbridge like the 990FX. Good luck.

It seems that Crucial has some 16GB sticks of non-ECC non-buffered DDR3 that is compatible with the FX 990 Extreme 9. http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/990fx-extreme9/CT7598600#productDetails and http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/990fx-extreme9/CT7601700 From this list: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASRock/990fx-extreme9 I also have this board with the FX 9590 and was hoping to build a computer that would not become obsolete for 10 - 20 years. I have 16 GB of memory now and I'm always running out of memory with like 3 browsers open, downloading, a hundred or so tabs in each browser open. 64 GB is not that much and in 10 or 15 years it will probably be minimal.
