Hi,
I've come half way a cross building a new gaming pc gtx 1070 16 gb ram core i5 6600k 144hz monitor I just wanted to know do I need a z170 motherboard for gaming? Or any other skylake chipset works (gaming at 1080p)

Solution
Overclocking is generally for people who stream, edit and so on. Or those who have old hardware such as I5 650.

If you're planning to only game I would suggest going for H110M motherboard with I5 6600. Save you some bucks. I5 6600 is so powerful that FPS difference between i5 6600 and i7 6700 is minimal.

Also if you're planning on building a system now I would actually suggest waiting for Kaby Lake because it's said to arrive before christmas. Kaby Lake is next gen (Gen 7) and will be on same socket as I5 6600.

If you are buying an unlocked chip (the 6600k) then z170 would be a good idea because the other chipsets are not as OC friendly - impossible in some cases - so either get a non-K CPU or use the z170 chipset.

With a good GPU like the 1070 it may be a good idea to have an overclockable i5 because the time may come when it will need to be pushed a little further, but obviously you'll need a good PSU and cooler.

Both are more than enough for 1080p gaming. The GTX 1070 is overkill even.
