I want to build a media server in my house and stream 4k movies from my bedroom where my pc/media server will be to my TV in the living room via PLEX. What router/modem do i need? What specs of the router will make a difference?

Solution
They are ok for basic applications. In your situation, an upgraded router from ASUS or another brand would give you the best experience. Another possibility is to use power-line adapters, which uses the electrical infrastructure in your house to give you internet access. Though, you'll have to research those and see if they will work with your house.

How much interference is in between your bedroom and TV e.g. walls, floors etc. Ideally you'll be using the 5Ghz channel as this will provide the best speeds and smoothest experience, however, 5Ghz cannot penetrate walls and floors as easily as the slower 2.4Ghz band. If your devices support wireless AC, then a router with wireless AC is preferred. Look for a router with "beamforming" as this will concentrate the signal to your device.

2nd floor. It's exactly above my bedroom. So you recomend a AC wifi with 5ghz chanel? The routers that the Internet providers rent/give you as a gift sometimes won't do the job at all?
