MX300 vs 850 Evo

Solution

Crucial's SSDs are as reliable as samsung's SSDs. Plus you are getting more GBs per euro. Even if you don't use the ram caching software, Crucial Mx300 offers better value. Go for MX300.

MX300 for me, with its "Momentum Cache" allows you to have speeds between 2500-1500 MBps. It also absorbs smaller frequent writes in the ram and increases the life of the ssd. Getting speeds of pcie ssd's at this price sould be reason enough.
Plus in MX300 you are getting more GB per euro.

The MX300 is slightly slower, but not really noticeable in normal use. And you get 50% more space for nearly the same price, so that's what I would recommend.

That's just a RAM caching feature, Samsung has that too. You shouldn't use that anyway as it doesn't provide any real benefit and you run the risk of data loss if power goes out.

I would recommend the Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB from my personal use and at work. Have had yet one to fail or act in a a strange manner. It looks like the price is a little high though, based off the PC partpicker chart. It might fall in price during the winter season, but It might not drop much now that Samsung has the 750 EVO series to create a price bottom for the 850 EVO.

Here is the chart: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3kL7YJ/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz75e250bam?history_days=730

Can't say anything about the Crucial MX300 275GB since I have not used it.

Samsung's ram caching software doesn't work as intended and also lowers the performance.

Samsung 850 EVO, probably, is the best and the most reliable SSD ever. And the most popular SSD as well. This drive is really out of competition so Samsung set the price for it 10$-20$ higher than other competitors.

Crucial MX300 is a great SSD as well. It's worse than Samsung 850 EVO in terms of performance, but still this is a great and reliable SSD from a serious vendor. Crucial MX300 is the best SSD in terms of performance/value. But overall Samsung is better.
