In regards to a Samsung galaxy S6 phone. I was sitting at a Starbucks, and shady looking dude with his laptop was sitting next to me.

No. While the user may not be able to decrypt your email he certainly could determine information on your wireless connection. Unrelated issues, or at least highly tangential.

I was using chrome google search (https) and twitter (https)...could he still have seen what I was doing?
