I have a feeling I short-circuited by CPU or MB but here goes. While upgrading my PC I noticed it wasn't booting, so I opened it up and realized the CPU power connector was unplugged. I had thought I pushed the power button to turn it off and then I plugged the power cable back in only to see electricity jump from the cable to the MB connector. The computer shut off and when i turned it back on it started beeping on a loop one short beep then a long beep. I'd though it was a psu failure so i tried again correctly this time with a different psu i had laying around and had the same result. I have a old HP with a Anthlon x2 215. Anyone know whats wrong or how bad I royally screwed up?

There's no way to tell for sure unless you can replace each component one by one, but from the sound of that passage I would guess that you damaged your motherboard.

If that is the case there isn't any 'repair' that can be done at home to bring it back. You'll need to get a new one.
