Hi there im looking at adding another 8gb of ram to my system. Currently I have 2x4gb of kingston hyperx beast ddr3 1600 cl9. Should I get the same ram or can I put another kingston savage or fury with it? I ask because I live in nz and trying to get the beast ram is hard as they don't stock it. But heaps of places stock the savage aND fury modules. Any advice will be appreciated thanks

Glad to hear your RAM is working out well.

If you can get a 980Ti for the price of a 1060, it is the better buy. The 980ti performance is closely matched by the GTX 1070.

The best way to upgrade would be to buy a new pair of twin 8GB modules that are in the exact same pack. I.E: A 16GB pack of 2 new 8GB Kingston Hyperx modules.

When mixing RAM there is a 50/50 toss up as to whether or not they will work together, even if they are the same size and basic model. If there is no way you can currently afford a new pack of 16GB, it would be the best investment by waiting until you could.

Tradesman wrote a great article discussing the issues with mixing RAM in the Tom's article "The Most Common DDR DRAM Myths Debunked". If you're interested, sections 1 and 6 are the most pertinent to this particular subject.

I really can't say for a New Zealand market. As above, it compares in performance to a GTX 1070, so take a look at your local prices for the 1070 and if you can get a 980ti for significatnly less then it will be a good deal.
